In LIB 686 we had the opportunity to explore and report on emerging technologies. I chose to learn about Project Loon, an experimental effort by Google to bring internet connectivity to remote areas of the world or to areas hit by natural disasters. The creators were using hot air balloons suspended 17 miles above the earth's surface, to beam down digital access. I was pleasantly surprised when, after hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rica, to learn that the Loon technology was able to help restore connectivity to that devastated island.
