Educational Profile:
I graduated from Oregon College of Education (OCE) in 1975 with a degree in Social Science and Secondary Education. I substituted at the middle and high schools in Independence for a couple of years and then took time to have a family.
During this time I pursued the skill and knowledge of Calligraphy. I soon found myself teaching lettering and graphic design for Chemeketa Community College in the Community Education Department. I also operated a freelance graphic design studio for 17 years. I wanted to be able to make money with my skills but at this time in history, (the 80's and early 90"s,) technology was in it's infancy. This was the time bulky, expensive copiers, developing photographic prints from negatives, and printing original art using the expensive letterpress method. There was no internet and no email. My hopes of making a living at hand-lettering were ahead of the technology which would make that possible today.

Current Employment
In 2003 I started teaching at Central High School in Independence. Since then I have taught Global Studies, Cultural Geography, Career Development, Leadership and Teen Parent Education. In 2006 I developed and coordinated the Senior Project, an exit requirement for Central High School. In 2015 this requirement was updated. Students must now create a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) as they leave Central. I also coordinate a new school-wide career development program and established a college and career center. Two years ago I re-established a teen parent program at Central. I will officially retire from CHS in June of 2018.
